Stuck in a boring talk!
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not!
P.S: I wanted to check the wordpress interface on my iPhone and I am really happy with it!
Journals Impact Factor
Some days ago one of my friend asked me about the impact factor of important journals in our field of research. Before his question, I had heard something about Journals Impact Factor but I didn’t have any clear idea what this number represents. So I googled a little bit and found the following information.
The impact factor was devised by Eugene Garfield, the founder of the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), now part of Thomson Reuters. The impact factor of a journal is calculated by dividing the number of current year citations to the source items published in that journal during the previous two years. More precisely it is calculated as follows.
Calculation for journal impact factor:
A= total cites in 1992
B= 1992 cites to articles published in 1990-91 (this is a subset of A)
C= number of articles published in 1990-91
D= B/C = 1992 impact factor
I have also extracted the impact factor of some journals in our field of study and compare them to the highly impacted journals.
- CA-A Cancer Journal for Clinicians: 87.925 (The highest impact factor for 2009)
- Nature: 34.480
- Science: 29.747
- Physical Review Letters: 7.328
- IEEE Transactions on Information Theory: 2.357
- IEEE Transactions on Communication: 1.512
- IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications: 3.758
- IEEE Communications Letters: 1.140
You may also look for other journals here (You can only use Journal Citation Report if your institute has access to this page).
For comparison, it would be nice if other people write the impact factor of the journals in their field of study.
P.S.: I may complete this post in the future.
Killing us Softly
Sometime ago I saw trailer of a talk (short video) shared by one of my friend on the Facebook which was about how advertisements change our feeling and understanding about women, beauty, relationship between man and woman and many other aspects of our life. The title of the talk is “Killing us Softly” given by “Jean Kilbourne” and the latest version of the video (version 4, about 45min) is produced on 2010.
I found this talk really interesting and useful. I really suggest watching it to everyone specially to women.
You may watch a preview version of the video with low quality on-line from here. You may also send me an email or write a comment to send you back a link to good quality version of the video.
Revising Nightmare!
It is much easier to write a paper from scratch instead of rewriting a bad paper.
[Myself!]
For my sake I should remember that the next time I will write a paper I spend enough time to accomplish a good job; unless revising it becomes a nightmare again!
You may generalize the above quote for the other tasks if you wish! But if do not like generalizing at least use it for writing papers!
Mad world
…
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it’s a very, very
Mad World, mad world
…
P.S.: Thanks to Amin for sharing it a couple of years ago.
The Rainy Night
It was rainy last night. I like rainy nights and especially I like the sound of droplets on my window. I didn’t feel sleepy so I took my camera and start playing with it.

Different States
Sometime one would like to write to be read; but there are times when one needs writing to be forgotten.
How much different these two states are.
A night in December
It was 20th of December, a snowy night with a freezing wind. After quite a while, I took my camera and went out near the lake to enjoy both walking on the fresh snow and having the chance to take some pictures.

P.S. I really missed walking with you.
